Leah Harlan
I’m Leah Harlan of Harlan Therapy, a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in birth trauma and maternal mental health. I work with high-achieving women who may look like they’re handling everything on the outside, while privately struggling after a frightening, complicated, or traumatic birth experience.
Many of the women I work with are physicians, attorneys, executives, business owners, and other driven professionals who are used to feeling capable and in control. After birth trauma, they may find themselves dealing with anxiety, intrusive memories, anger, grief, medical mistrust, or fear of another pregnancy or delivery—and wondering why they still don’t feel like themselves.
My approach goes beyond simply talking about what happened. I help women process traumatic birth experiences, reconnect with themselves, and move forward without their birth story continuing to hold so much emotional power.
I offer individual therapy and specialized trauma-focused intensives in Virginia, with a particular passion for supporting women preparing for another pregnancy or birth after trauma. I also value collaborating closely with doulas, pelvic floor therapists, OB/GYNs, midwives, and other professionals who care for women during pregnancy and postpartum.
If you’re looking for specialized support for yourself—or a trusted place to refer a woman whose birth experience continues to affect her long after everyone else thinks she should be “okay”—I’d love to connect.
